NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

I don't know if this scan will show up. When we were growing up my mom would make a big poster at the end of the year, each year she would make it different. One year it was a flower and each of us were petals. I did this the first few years I was married, but it was so big and I wanted to be able to keep it for my journal so I have converted over to a regular sheet of paper. I do one each year, this years isn't too original, but it has our major events for the year.
The other thing that went along with our "Year in review" was our traditional "New Years Resolution" FHE on the first Monday of the year and we have continued it ever since.
We had our FHE last night, but this year I had each of the kids write exactly how they were going to achieve their goals and followed an ensign model of a goal in each area, for example: school, scouts, study, church, physical and spiritual. It actually was one of our nicest FHE's considering Bill was stuck in a snow storm on the way home and the kids had piles of homework so we got started late.
I went to Michael's and got each of the kids their own calendars and had them set time lines for their goals and what they were going to do . . . (Here's the Bateman part, the calendars were usually only a $1 and I got the 50% off so I got a calendar for each of us and one to hang on the wall for $4).
So here's to hoping they last all year. I didn't make my traditional loose weight, I have had 2-3 years of a lot of health problems and gaining weight. So loosing seems to be an unattainable goal, so I am going to leave that one alone and hope that by changing other things in my life that will come secondary. I am not as bad as I was, but my energy level is so low that on days that I push it I have 2 almost down in bed so slow and steady maybe will win the race.
Maybe if I have them written for more than just me I will accomplish them. I have 5 major goals.
First, I am going to not live by the seat of my pants and last minute everything. I am in the process of the next 2 weeks (my dead line is Jan 15th) to have the things that can be planned for the year done, including meals and to start each new holiday 1 month (at least) before it gets here. That goal includes quite a few things.
Secondly, I AM NOT buying any more scrap-booking things until I actually get some scrap-booking done (that doesn't count the gift cards I got for Christmas to Roberts craft, I will use those, but wisely). I am going to scrapbook at least 2 hours each week. I am hopeful that I will be able to do the current stuff and the first year of each of my children by years end.
Third, I am going to read the New Testament all the way through. I have read a lot of my scriptures, but only have only read the Book of Mormon cover to cover and then only once. I am already to Matthew 8, so hopefully I will keep this one going.
Fourth We ARE FINISHING the basement by years end.
and finally (but not least) I am going to be nicer and not be so quick tempered. This is going to be the toughest, but hopefully doing the first 4 will help with this one as well as lots of prayers. In case my boys read this (they wont, I think only Judy and Jeanna do) I'm not going to be a push-over just more patient.

  1. I noticed you didn't put your age on the year update page. have you taken Julia's approach as well that you will eternally be 22. :) We do the same traditions that Mom did but I do the 8.5 by 11 sheets as well. I do a family page and then a page for each person. This way I can put them in their scrapbooks (if I ever do them).

  2. I've stopped buying scrapbook stuff too... until I actually use some of it! We need to get together sometime to do it. I think the basement one is great too... you guys are so close!

  3. To Jeanna, no that was an oversight. I'm proud of my years, sometimes a little shocked by them and overwhelmed when I think about how old mom was, but I try not to think about that aspect.
I make color copies for each of the boys books. I was always interested in my brothers and sisters so I want them to have the whole page (plus I'm lucky to do one instead of 6).

  4. This post is just for me . . . I have already posted, but everyone of my posts has 2 comments only from Judy and Jeanna. I put a thing on here that I have to moderate comments and so for a while now I didn't even have those 2 posts and was feeling rather alone in the world. So thank you Judy and Jeanna for posting. Also if I post again then I will finally have a post that has 4 comments. Stupid, I know, but there you have it.
